Two Colorado historians with a familial connection to the Sturdevant House in Waverly will be in Iowa next week. Kathy and Rick Sturdevant are hoping to raise at least $35,000 before April 14 so they can buy Rick’s great-great-great-grandfather’s house at a sheriff’s sale. They hope to preserve the 1855 house and convert it into a living history site. According to the Waverly Democrat, the site will “educate students and visitors about frontier social history, Native American relations, Waverly’s war service, Bremer County, and historic preservation.”
