Keokuk City Council grapples with Friendly House

The Friendly House at 326 S. Sixth St. in Keokuk is slated to be demolished by July 1. While local staff is interested in using the stone from the property in for other uses, the council has only budgeted $10,000 for the removal of the building. This price tag will not allow for any sensitive removal of historic materials or salvage.

The local HPC has leads on potential redevelopment opportunities. The city is determining potential for this opportunity and feasibility of an extension of time.
