DeWitt, Iowa

“Recent Research on the Underground Railroad in Eastern Iowa” is a new presentation focusing on the results of our research to date in and around Clinton County, Iowa. Clinton County was a very active place for underground railroad activities and I will be discussing the people, places and events associated with these activities. I will also be putting this information within the larger context of the so called “John Brown Route” through Iowa or as we have been referring to it as the northern route through Iowa. In eastern Iowa, this route went from Iowa City through Cedar, Scott and Clinton Counties to the towns of Clinton, Lyons and Camanche on the Mississippi River and can be traced well into Whiteside County, Illinois. This event is open and free to the public. Hope to see you there!
